What is Zaditen Elixir and what is it used for?

* Zaditen belongs to a group of medicines which have anti-allergic properties.

* In allergic conditions certain substances are released in the body.
* These trigger inflammatory responses. Zaditen Elixir acts to dampen down these responses and can therefore be used to treat various allergic conditions such as rhinitis (inflammation of the mucous membranes in the nose) and conjunctivitis (inflammation of the mucous membranes in the eye).

Do not take Zaditen Elixir if:

* You suspect that you have previously had an allergic reaction to Zaditen, or have been upset by any of the ingredients in it (listed on the front of this leaflet).
* You are pregnant, or planning to become pregnant. Tell your doctor straight away if you become pregnant whilst taking Zaditen
* You are breast feeding

Tell your doctor before starting to take Zaditen Elixir if:

* You have, or have ever had, epilepsy or liver problems
* You have an inherited intolerance to some sugars
* Zaditen Elixir has been prescribed for a child under the age of 3 years.

Taking other medicines (INTERACTIONS):
* Always tell your doctor or pharmacist about any other medicines you are taking, including any that you have bought yourself without a prescription.

In particular, tell your doctor if you are taking:

* Medicines for diabetes
* Medicines to treat sleeplessness or anxiety
* Anti-histamines to treat allergic reactions such as itching, rash or runny nose.

PRECAUTIONS OF Zaditen Elixir:
* Alcohol
Zaditen Elixir contains about 100 mg/5 ml of alcohol.
The effects of alcohol may be enhanced by Zaditen Elixir. You should not, therefore, drink alcohol if you are taking Zaditen.

* Driving and operating machinery
During the first few days of treatment your reactions may be impaired.
You may feel drowsy or your reactions may be slower than usual, even if you do not feel drowsy.
You should not drive or take charge of machinery until the effect of your medicine on your reactions is known.
If the Zaditen Elixir affects your reactions in any way, or makes you feel drowsy, do not drive or operate machinery.

How to take Zaditen Elixir?

* Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to take and when to take it. It is important that you follow your doctor's instructions exactly and never change the dose yourself, however well you feel.
* Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure about how much medicine to take or when to take it.
* The usual dose for adults is 1 mg (1 x 5 ml spoonful) or 2 mg (2 x 5 ml spoonful), taken twice a day.
* The usual dose for children aged 3 years and above is 1 mg (1 x 5 ml spoonful), taken twice a day.
* Take your medicine with food.
* Do not stop taking Zaditen unless your doctor tells you to, however well you feel. Discontinuation of treatment should take place gradually over a 2 to 4 week period.

-- If you forget to take your Zaditen Elixir (MISSDOSE):

* If you forget to take a dose of Zaditen, take another one as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. If it is almost time for your next dose, just take it as you would do normally and miss out the dose that you have forgotten. Do not take a double dose of Zaditen to make up for the dose you forgot to take.
